This session was just plain fun. It is obvious to see that these three are happy to be with one another and to be a family. We played. We ran around trees, we picked flowers, we sat in the grass and they giggled as they chased one another. Sammie can tend to be shy, but as soon as the fun began she opened right up and you could see the charming personality that lies beneath. She told me she had been practicing her smile for days. It paid off.

I haven’t seen sweet Zadie since she was just a newborn. Click here to see how tiny and brand new she was! She is now nine months old with big beautiful girly eyes and easy going parents. The Keelings know how just to be, to play like they do everyday and flawlessly pull off the coordinated family attire without looking like they tried. It was still a hot humid evening, so we sat in the shade and played until the sun dipped low enough to see the gorgeous blue of Lake Michigan.

Going Home.

I had forgotten what it was like to go home.

About four weeks ago Eric and I drove south to the town I grew up in, went to high school, and eventually met Eric and fell in love. It is home. We came from San Francisco, New York and Chicago to be together. We stayed out in the woods for 3 days, with no iphone buzzing with emails, no tv, no phone calls, just home with my family. No family is perfect, not everyone gets along 100% of the time, but my family holds deep deep love. It is one of my greatest gifts. One evening we all gathered and listened to Grandma talk about her life. All her grandchildren and children sat around her listening…. she told us we could ask her anything, so we did. Silly and serious alike. We all laughed remembering Grandpa, and asked her what he was like before we all knew him. She read us her favorite hymn.

On my birthday I went on a walk with my dad, my brother Josh and love Eric. It is my favorite memory from the weekend. We probably only walked about a half a mile. I looked ahead of me…. the three most important men in my life, all to myself for an hour in the woods. I was trailing behind and had a big stupid grin on my face. Surrounded by green, with the three men I love the most.

We went swimming in the creek every day we were there.

This is my brother Josh another talented photographer himself, with his VERY expensive camera in the creek!! This picture is hilarious to me.

I had forgotten what is was like to go home.

Meet Miss Zola. She is a cute six month old little girl that is obsessed with her cute red shoes and making friends with the kitty. She bursts into a toothless grin when her Dad plays the ukulele and makes sure Mom is always in view. Keep a close watch on her and those beautiful brown eyes…

Meet beautiful brand new baby boy Max. He is only one week old. Life is so incredible. Every time I see new life I am in awe. It never ever gets old. Every tiny part of him is perfectly made. Lindsay and Michael are doting over this little one getting used to the world.

Vacation Part 1- San Francisco

We’re back!!!. We were away for an entire week to see family and take a deep breath of Pacific Ocean air. Our first stop was in San Francisco. I could not wait ( really, ask Eric I was driving him crazy) to go to the cliffs with barking seals, no tourists, beautiful eucalyptus trees and private nooks to tuck away in and breathe deeply. My brother has lived in SFO for seven years and every time I go to see him, we come here. I felt like Chicago had been smothering me, and could NOT WAIT to be sitting on rock overlooking the Pacific Ocean with my love. We only had a few hours here, but it was everything I was hoping it would be.

In my many times to the cliffs, I’ve never found this cave. It was right by the water , and at high tide is actually underwater entirely. The light was crazy amazing.

No one like Dad.

My Dad. He’s one of my favorites, and I know he is probably my biggest fan. It is hard to replace, or find, or describe my Dad’s love. Its this never ending jar of ridiculous love in all kinds of forms…. He does lots of tangible “Dad” things (like coming next week to help paint our new studio) and things that grow a young girls heart and refresh a woman’s becoming. I can hear his voice , ” Come just sit by me, I don’t have anything to say, just want you here”. That, that’s my Dad. HIs love is one I know I don’t have to earn, don’t have to wonder about, don’t have to dwell anytime thinking about how he feels towards me. I know. He has made it very very clear how he feels towards me for many many years. Since the day I had chosen to marry Eric. Eric has been his son. He has welcomed him in and doesn’t like calling him son-in-law, but insists on just the son part….

We also share lots of things in common. I’m pretty sure me following him around on walks and in the woods as a kid, is what gives me my great love for nature. He’s into bugs, and creatures and knows the names of them all. Eric once made the mistake of going on a hike with me and Dad in the Colorado mountains. I was looking at all the trees, shrubs, flowers… Dad was over by the stream pointing at all the different fish, bugs and critters. Poor Eric was wondering why we were off the trail and taking so long! These are pics from that day.

Last and not least, here is an adorable pic of Mom and Dad. I am richly blessed…

My Mom’s the best, sorry… its just a fact.

Here is my Mom and Dad. I love these pics of them, her beauty matched with his strength and obvious love the two of them share.

My Mom is incredible, she just is. She loves deeply, helps practically, encourages, prays, chats about clothes, loves trees, makes great food, invites everyone in, goes for walks everyday, sacrifices, keeps track of Dad’s glasses, teaches, helps, walks with women……and oh how she Mothers. It could be in fact her greatest gift. I swear, people know when my Mom is around. They come flocking for the love and care of a Mother. Those of you who know her, you know what I mean, and perhaps she is a Mother to you as well. I sure hope so. She is incredible and oh so beautiful in so many ways, so many OBVIOUS ways. I can’t think of a way my Mom could be better. And it gives me so much delight to be her only daughter. I’m happy to share her, because I know I hold a different kind of place with her.

So Mom, Happy Mothers Day! Wish I was there to hug you in person and to look you in the eye and say, YOU ARE A CRAZY WONDERFUL MOM!! I know Dad agrees. In fact, when I talked to Dad this past week, he was gushing of Mom, of her strength and beauty that allows her to love and help so deeply.

So soak it up Mom , Happy Mothers Day!

Happy Birthday Josh and Lily!

This is my brother Josh, and his wonderful girl Lily. I am a little late, but they both share a birthday week. Josh’s is May 2nd and Lily’s is the 5th! I think its kinda fun that they get to share it… They are out in San Fran doing there thing, and we are always trying to scheme on whose coming where next and when. They are some of the most important people in my life, so thought you all should know them too! I think its our turn to hit up Cali and we are excited…hm.. when? Wish them a happy birthday!
